Every August, I lose motivation for work. At least when I live in Europe. All of my friends are out of town for vacation. Instead, the town is full with tourists. I could just go back to Japan too, but 2000$ flights allow me to go back to Japan twice a year at most. I prefer going there in autumn or spring when the weather and nature is at its best.

The other day, I couldn’t get anything done at home, so I’ve decided to work at my favorite café nearby. I got dressed, grabbed my laptop, and walked there in the heat, only to find the place completely packed with tourists. Not a single seat was available—and moreover, the atmosphere wasn’t right for working at all. Normally, at that time, it’s quiet and almost empty.

“Everyone else is on vacation, and I’m the only one stuck working alone at home.”

Didn’t I just take a trip last month? I get to enjoy myself whenever I want, even when others are busy working. And realistically, the percentage of people who actually take the entire month of August off is probably very small.

I shouldn’t waste time comparing myself to others—I just need to focus on my own path.
