One of my favorite comedy duos is a pair of female comedians called Okazu Club. Both of them are over 40 and single. By the way, I’m single too.
One of the members mentioned that she has never dated a man in her entire life. She explained that even when she develops feelings for someone, she gets too shy to confess. Now that she is over 40, she says, “I don’t know what it feels like to be lonely on my own, nor do I know the joy of having a boyfriend, of being with someone.”When I heard that, I was deeply moved by how incredibly cool she is. She works hard, eats what she loves, stays active, and dedicates time to her favorite hobbies and oshi-katsu – supporting her favorite idols and celebrities. Even without romance or marriage in her life, she is living happily and fully.
I don’t think love exists only in romance, marriage, or family. I believe love shows up in the way we approach our work and how we treat our friends. In fact, pursuing what you love might be a form of love in itself.
Maybe the reason I love watching Okazu Club so much is that I can feel a genuine sense of love in their relationship. You can watch them on their YouTube channel. They might argue during their talks sometimes, but underneath it all, I can sense a deep, unspoken gratitude they have toward each other. They truly understand one another. I wonder if spending 15 years together naturally builds that kind of profound bond. Watching them makes me want to live my own life with love, always remembering to cherish and be grateful for the people around me.
